Ingredients
For the Bang Bang Sauce:
- Mayo: The creamy base for our sauce.
- Sriracha: Get ready for a fiery kick!
- Honey: I like to balance the heat with a touch of sweetness.
- Lime: While freshly squeezed lime is best, you can use lime juice in a pinch.
- Rice vinegar: Just a touch of this to add a bit of tang.
- Sugar: Can’t forget a little sweet to keep things interesting.
- Soy sauce: Adds a savory depth that complements everything beautifully.
- Red pepper flakes: Feel free to adjust this based on your heat preference โ we like it bold!
Just combine all these ingredients in a bowl or mason jar and whisk it up until smooth and dreamy.
Pro tip: Make your sauce in a mason jar for easy mixing and storing. Leftovers will be ready to grab and go.
Bang Bang Chicken Ingredients:
- Chicken breast: You’ll want to cut them into 1-inch chunks before adding the remaining ingredients.
- Paprika: Adds a touch of smokiness and warmth.
- Onion powder: For a subtle oniony kick without the tears.
- Ground black pepper: Don’t forget the black pepper โ it’s a flavor essential!
- Soy sauce: Adds a savory layer that complements the chicken perfectly.
- Olive oil: Keeps our chicken nice and moist while it cooks to perfection.
- Bang bang sauce: Because you can never have too much of a good thing!
Step 1: Add all the ingredients for the bang bang chicken into a medium-sized mixing bowl.
Step 2: Toss the chicken in the spice mixture until it’s evenly coated.
Step 3: Heat your skillet with some olive oil over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through.
Step 4: Assemble your plate! Serve the chicken over steamed rice with a colorful bed of shredded cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, and green onions. Don’t forget to drizzle more delicious Bang Bang sauce over everything!
This recipe has been such a lifesaver for me during busy weeknights! Just like my creamy chicken skillet, but even faster, thanks to the diced chicken. Every minute saved is a win!

Bang bang chicken FAQs
Absolutely! Chicken thighs are a great alternative โ they’re naturally more flavorful and juicy. Just cook them for a few extra minutes to make sure they’re cooked through. And if you use bone-in, make sure you debone it!
No problem! You can substitute sriracha with another hot sauce you have on hand. Just keep in mind that the flavor profile might differ slightly. Start with a lesser amount and taste as you go to reach your desired spice level.
Easy! Just use a gluten-free tamari or soy sauce in the marinade and the sauce. Also, double-check the labels on your other ingredients to ensure they’re gluten-free as well.
We’ve all been there! There are a couple of ways to tame the heat:
Add a touch of honey or maple syrup: A little sweetness can help balance out the spice.
Cream it Up: Whisk in a tablespoon or two of sour cream or plain yogurt to add a creamy element that will also help mellow the spice.
The chicken itself freezes well, but the Bang Bang sauce might separate a bit when thawed. If you’re planning to freeze leftovers, I recommend freezing just the chicken and making a new batch of sauce right before you heat your chicken back up.

Oh man, Laura – this is a winner! My husband came home and said it smelled like a mall food court, lol. This was spot on with what I was hoping it would taste like. I’ve made more of the sauce just to keep in the fridge on standby. Thank you!
So glad to hear! I do the same with the sauce!
