It didn’t take long to discover the best moose burger recipe. As it turns out, moose burger is pretty darn flavorful itself!
So, needless to say, our job was actually pretty easy with this one, but we did learn a few tips and tricks along the way to make it even better!

Moose Burger Ingredients
2 pounds of ground moose burger. Some people will add pork fat. However, we find the burgers to be plenty juicy on their own. (plus, we have a secret ingredient for adding juiciness to our burgers)
1/8 cup of fresh minced onion. The not-so-secret ingredient. You will love how juicy and flavorful these burgers are with this simple ingredient.
The perfect seasonings. We used salt, pepper, paprika, brown sugar, dried minced garlic and cayenne pepper to spice things up.
Moose Burger Recipe Instructions
1. Combine the seasonings.
Use a small ramekin or bowl to stir all your ingredients together.
2. Shred your onion.
I use the 3rd smallest grate on a standard box grater. Depending on the size of the onion, you can expect to use half an onion to get an eighth of a cup of minced onion.
3. Season the meat.
Break up the ground moose meat and add the seasonings and onion. I personally use my hands to mix everything up. However, a wooden spatula will do the trick. Then, all you’ll need to do is form your burger patties!
4. Shape your burger patties.
I like my burgers pretty thick, so I divided the meat and formed six patties.
5. Cook your perfect moose burgers.
Preheat a 12″ cast iron skillet to medium heat and carefully add the patties, being careful not to overcrowd them. Cook for about 2-5 minutes per side.
Top tip: The thickness you make your patties will ultimately determine the total cook time. If necessary, reduce the heat to medium-low to allow the burgers to cook through.
Moose Burger Cooking Tips
For well-done moose burgers, try doubling the minced onions in the recipe to ensure the meat doesn’t dry out. Admittedly, adding pork fat is a better option, but it isn’t always readily on hand in most households.
Dress the moose burgers with your favorite toppings. Ketchup and mustard are always a must, but I also love sprucing them up with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles.
Sides are a must, no matter what. Of course, you can’t have any hamburger without homemade french fries, but what’s stopping you from throwing together some baked beans with smoked ham hock or even a light side salad? Ok, maybe not the salad.
Add a little butter to the skillet. While this isn’t totally necessary, it does help the burger develop a beautifully crispy sear! Just like moose chops!
More tips to keep your burger juicy
Add an egg: This is quite possibly the easiest way to add additional moisture to your moose burgers. While the results aren’t game-changing, it does help.
Include pork fat: I include pork fat in my venison burgers because, well, they have no fat, but the results are amazing!
Avoid pressing on the burger: Avoid the temptation to press down on the burger patty with a spatula while cooking, as doing so will force out all the flavorful juices that give the burger its juicy texture.
