Smothered Round Steak

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound of tenderized round steaks (two steaks)
  • 1 cup of chicken or beef broth
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 4 baby bella mushrooms sliced
  • 1/4 cup of butter plus one tablespoon
  • 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour
  • 2 cloves of fresh garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of fresh cracked pepper

Instructions
 

  • Heat a large, 12" cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Melt 1 tablespoon of butter, then add the steaks to sear for 2 minutes, flipping once.
  • Remove steaks from the skillet and reduce heat to medium.
  • Saute the onions and mushrooms in the remaining butter until soft.
  • Add garlic, stir in flour, and slowly add the bone broth.
  • Bring the gravy to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer, stirring occasionally.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add steaks back in, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until cooked through.

Notes

According to the USDA, round steaks must be cooked to a minimum temperature of 145°F.
