Are you looking for a quick and tasty dinner recipe? Well, aren't you in for a treat? This oven-baked hamburger steak is a delicious and satisfying meal that's easy to prepare and serve.
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, and spices. Mix these ingredients well to ensure they're thoroughly combined.
Next, toss onions and mushrooms in olive oil, then add them to the bottom of a cast iron skillet.
Divide the meat and shape it into 4 patties. Place them on top of the onions and mushrooms. Bake for 20 minutes or until the internal temperature of the burgers registers 160°F.
Once the cooking time is up, use oven mitts to carefully remove the skillet from the oven and set it up on the stove.
Slide the hamburger steaks out of the skillet temporarily to make room for the gravy.
Add flour to the hot skillet, stirring it in to create a rich base for the gravy.
Gradually pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, ensuring that you maintain a medium-low heat throughout. Continue to stir the sauce until it thickens to perfection.
Season the sauce with salt and pepper to your desired taste.
Finally, return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and serve immediately.
Notes
Try not to pack the burger patties tightly. Just loosely shape them so they stay nice and tender.
If you don't have beef broth, you can use chicken broth.
I like to use lean ground beef, so I don't have a ton of grease left over in my skillet. You can also use ground turkey or ground chicken, just be sure to adjust cook times accordingly.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
