Crush the peppercorns with a mallet or the handle of a butter knife.
Combine the crushed peppercorns with the rest of the seasonings.
Roll each steak in the seasonings to fully coat.
Preheat a 12" cast iron skillet on medium-high heat, then add butter and allow it to melt.
Sear each side for 4 minutes. (8 minutes total)
Allow it to rest for 10 minutes before enjoying.

I pulled my steaks off at 130°F. After resting, the internal temperature was right at 135°.Tri tips can be on the tougher side, but very juicy steaks. Cooked much past medium, they dry out quickly.
